5 days Rwanda gorilla Safari starting and ending in Kigali taking you to Volcanoes National Park and Lake Kivu, with gorilla trekking, Hike to Dian Fossey grave site and Golden monkey tracking in Volcanoes National Park.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali City tour and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Your driver/guide shall meet you at Kigali airport on arrival or Hotel in Kigali and take you for optional Kigali city tour. Visit the genocide memorial, Nyamata church, local markets among others. You will then set off a scenic two hours journey to Volcanoes National Park with view of escarpments and Virunga mountain ranges. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge/Muhabura Hotel.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and cultural walk
You shall wake up early at 6am, prepare and have breakfast. Head to the park headquarters at 7am with parked lunch for briefing about the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas and gorilla trekking group allocation. You will then drive to the starting point and enter the forest at 8:30am to begin the search of the gorillas under the guidance of the park rangers. Tracking gorillas in the forest, can take 1-8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and the gorilla family you are allocated. Once you find the group, you will stay with the gorillas for a maximum of one hour taking photography and making necessary observation. You will then descend back to your lodge. In the evening, you may go for cultural walk to Iby’wachu where you will learn more about the Banyarwanda tradition. Dinner and overnight stay(Day 1).
Day 3: Hike to Dian Fossey Grave site
In the morning, you will gather at the park headquarters for briefing before going for Dian Fossey hike. Dian Fossey was a famous female American researcher that chose to spend most of her life studying Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda’s volcanoes national park until she was killed in 1985 by unknown sources at her research center and was buried there. You will descend back reaching the lodge by 3pm at the earliest.
Day 4: Golden Monkey tracking and transfer to Lake Kivu
After an early breakfast, you will go for briefing at the park headquarters at 7am before going for golden monkey tracking. This will take 2-4 hours. On return, you will have lunch and drive from Volcanoes National Park to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi and get to relax at the lake shores in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Paradise Malahide/Kivu Serena Hotel.
Day 5: Boat Ride -transfer to Kigali – Departure
After breakfast you will Either go for a boat ride on Lake Kivu up to the hot springs or go for coffee experience dubbed “from crop to cup”. Later, you will drive from Lake Kivu back to Kigali reaching early in the afternoon and transfer to the airport for your departure flight if on schedule.
