Rwanda Re-opens tourism

The most affected sector since the outbreak of corona virus is revamping to business again after the country relaxing lock down and adapting to the available safety measures against the spread of corona virus.

In a statement released by Rwanda Development board, Tourism activities and re-opening of charter flights and international flight can commence business. However, the statement released exempts tourist travelling with charter flight from anti covid-19 measures that stops travelers from entry into the country.

All visitors coming to the country by charter flights are to test negative of the novel virus with in 72 hours before arrival and will be subjected to another test prior to visiting any tourist site. This measure is subjected to control the spread of the virus especially to the primates who are prone to human disease as well as other human individuals in contact.  

A test center has been set up at Amahoro National Stadium in the capital city of Kigali and other test centers outside Kigali will be considered as demand grows, it said.

The chief Rwanda development board Belise Kariza said in a statement” “Rwanda’s tourism industry is adapting to create a safe environment for travelers and operators, in order to thrive in these unprecedented times,”

There fore the board of tourism and investment for Rwanda arranged a discounted offer of gorilla permits from a lump sum of Usd 1500 until 31. December 2020 in a bid to revamp the tourism business.

The discounted gorilla permits are as follows;

  • 200 for Rwandans and East African Nationals residing in Rwanda.
  • 500 Usd foreign residents

Following the 3 months suspension of tourism activities due to COVID-19, Rwanda’s tourism sector has been negatively affected and efforts are underway to revive through various tourism packages and offers.

In the statement, it is said there are promotional offers available for families and corporations visiting Volcanoes national park, Nyungwe National park and Gishwati-mukula National park for Gorilla tracking and chimpanzee tracking respectively.

Mountain gorillas are found in two East African countries, Rwanda and Uganda and a few thriving in central Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo. There are over 1000 mountain gorillas in the whole world and 30% of the total population is traced in volcanoes national park North of Rwanda in Musanze while others are in Mgahinga gorilla national park and Bwindi forest national park in Uganda.

In conclusion re- opening tourism sector and reviewing the rates is to make it affordable for every one as well encourage domestic tourism and enthusiastic travelers to take advantage of the available opportunity and experience the beauty of a thousand hills as well employment to the laid off workers during the country’s lock down.
